Registering As A Charity

In order to register as a Charity you have to show that you have £5000.00 in your bank account. ouch! I am getting there slowly.

I would like to gain Charity Status as soon as possible. I feel it gives more credibility to the cause you are trying to drive forward. The tax implications help.

Diabetes Power Aim:
Raising The Awareness Of Type 1 Diabetes, from early diagnosis to avoid DKA from mis-diagnosis ---to making the wider public aware of what a very complex and challenging the condition is!
I feel that if we are able to achieve the above it will help support the services that are available to us.
I would also like to host an event again later this year that will give people the opportunity to see the latest pumps and meters.
The profits that I make from selling my medical alert bracelets will go directly to Diabetes Power in order to reach the £5k to become a registered charity.

I am massive supporter of Jdrf, who I hope through research will find a cure some day soon, Diabetes UK who provide a fantastic support network/research & CWD who are brilliant for information & family support.

No British Diabetes Charity is purely dedicated to raising awareness of Type 1 and really raising the profile of Type 1. This is where I see Diabetes Power Remit.
Claudia was in DKA when diagnosed as our GP said she had a sore throat, looking back we are lucky she is still with us.(still scares me today) Whilst I can't stop Type 1 Diabetes, I am hoping that the awareness campaign will help early diagnosis and prevent a stay in a HDU.

Type 1 Diabetes is not understood correctly by some of the medical profession let alone the wider public. I would like to change that. I believe if we can raise the profile and gain recognition it will help smooth pathways in Education and perhaps the Commissioners who hold the purse strings may see the importance of delivering enhanced services and providing pump therapy and CGM's if that is a patients wish together with access to Dafne programmes or similar.

May be I have my rose tinted glasses on, but I am willing to give it a go. The photo shoot took place on Sunday, this is the first step towards the National Campaign.

Please, if you need a medical alert bracelet, please consider buying one from Diabetes Power. You can buy the bracelets without the Type 1 Tags too.

Sorry boys I know they are all girly, but I am open to suggestion.

  1. been to visit your site, looking good. My daughter was in DKA at deaths door when she was diagnosed, 3 days after we were accused of neglect and threatened with child protection by the health professionals I had taken my sick child to for help.
now I know what to look for we got my son diagnosed much earlier last week, no DKA for him. Two with type 1 now .. oh great.
And I never did get an apology for the child abuse allegations and their neglect to test her.

  2. These are beautiful :)

I've organized a charitable event for artisans. It will be supporting a diabetes organization, but not one that I see widely supported by the T1 community very often. It's going to be launched on 2/14. Stay tuned...if it's something you'd like to be involved with, feel free to e-mail me after the details have been released!
